100,000 pulsating white balloons fill Covent Garden
A collaboration with French artist Charles Pétillon unleashed his most ambitious concept to date, into reality.
The ‘Heartbeat’ installation weaved through the South Hall, stretching 54m x 12m. White lights created a gentle pulsing sensation.
Pétillon’s ‘Invasion series’ fills spaces with white balloons. This collaboration with Covent Garden was part of an annual summer cultural event.
The balloons were fixed in place by 24 electric hoists and 180 metres of aluminium truss. To the naked eye, they appear to float, suspended weightlessly under the iconic arches of Covent Garden.
