Chanel ‘Tweed Exhibition’

A journey from inspiration to abstraction.

The launch of Chanel's Tweed High Jewellery Collection at Lindley Hall in 2023 showcased the house’s reinterpretation of tweed in an extraordinary and luxurious form. The exhibited collection paid tribute to tweed's iconic association with Chanel, transforming the soft textile into high-end jewellery.

The considered stages took visitors on a journey from the Scottish Highlands, where Coco Chanel first drew inspiration, through the ‘Tweed Valley’ displaying breathtaking pieces from the collection against a backdrop of heather, to the modern ‘Tweed Gallery’ showcasing the art of drawing, finally leading into an exhibition area of expansive white space and vividly coloured tweed-patterned glass.

The zones unfold the story of the fabric’s historic connection with the fashion house, from Chanel’s reinterpretation of male hunting attire into a lighter and softer fabric that combined elegance with empowerment, and then into high-end jewellery pieces that mimic the braided, textured appearance in thematic lines – synonymous with the brand's identity.

The exhibition shines a light on the intricate craftsmanship of the collection, connecting the brand’s history with modern luxury.
